As AI clusters scale, electrical interconnect is moving toward 448G per lane, where cable, connector and interface must work as one channel. At the 2026 OCP Global Summit session on 400G/lane optics module connectors, Luxshare presented progress on 448G CPC, cable backplane and I/O designs.
On the cable side, OPTAMAX 448G Twinax uses a 92Ω design with bandwidth above 100GHz; measured 31AWG cable loss is 10.0dB/m at 56GHz and 19.0dB/m at 110GHz. The KOOLIO CPC uses a stubless interface and 360° shielding to limit resonances from excess electrical branches and control adjacent-channel coupling.
Component performance must then be validated at channel level. A CPC–I/O–CPC simulation using 300mm 31AWG cables at both ends and a 1m 27AWG cable in the middle, 1.6m of twinax in total, showed about 28dB insertion loss at 106GHz excluding package substrate loss.
For 448G, 92Ω and 85Ω impedance options are being developed in parallel, while PAM6 versus PAM4 depends on bandwidth needs, transceiver capability and system conditions. Current frequency-domain simulation and sample measurement provide a basis; real link capability still needs package, equalisation and bit-error-rate testing.
